Fire Doors Rite specialises in fire door maintenance and installation projects across Ministry of Defence sites throughout the UK. Part of IDSL Group and the wider PTSG business, we are entering a period of accelerated growth, with plans to triple our turnover over the next 18 months.

To support this increase in work, we are recruiting an Estimator to help turn site survey information into accurate quotations and support the commercial progress of our contracts.

You don’t need to arrive as a fire door specialist. We can provide training in our systems, processes and the work we deliver. What you will need is strong Excel skills, attention to detail and the ability to work accurately and independently.

About the role

Our external surveying partner carries out fire door surveys and provides the information needed to price each project. You will review this information, transfer it from spreadsheets into the FDR system and use the system to generate project costs and prepare quotations.

As your knowledge develops, you will build an understanding of our contracts and the works involved, helping you identify missing information, potential challenges and points that need clarification before quotations are issued.

You will also support the Operations Manager by collating work in progress and tracking contracts against key stages, helping ensure invoices are raised at the right time.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Reviewing survey spreadsheets and entering information accurately into the FDR system.

• Preparing project costings and quotations using the information provided.

• Liaising with the external surveying company and customers to clarify details and resolve queries.

• Developing your knowledge of fire door maintenance, installation and contract requirements.

• Identifying potential issues or gaps in information before quotations are sent.

• Maintaining accurate records of quotations, contract progress and work in progress.

• Supporting the Operations Manager in monitoring contract milestones and providing the information needed for timely invoicing.

What we’re looking for

This role would suit someone with a grounding in quantity surveying, estimating or construction, or someone who has studied building surveying at college or university and wants to put their skills into practice.

A relevant background would be helpful, but it is not essential. We are equally interested in candidates who can demonstrate the following:

• Strong Excel skills – essential.

• Confidence working with numbers and checking information for accuracy.

• Close attention to detail and an organised approach to managing tasks.

• Good IT skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly.

• Clear communication skills when dealing with colleagues, customers and external partners.

• The ability to manage your workload and complete tasks without close supervision.

• A willingness to learn about our projects and develop your technical and commercial knowledge.

You will be part of a team, although there will be extended periods of independent work. You should be comfortable staying focused, taking responsibility for your tasks and asking questions when information needs clarification.

Due to the nature of our Ministry of Defence contracts, the successful candidate must be able to pass the required enhanced vetting process.
